CREMATION CEREMONY

COCK FIGHTING

Cock fights have one other aspect of the religion, one important characteristic of the Balinese Hindu religion is making an offering to the temple. Whenever there is an important Balinese ceremony, there should be blood sacrifice made to the bad spirit to win their cooperation and support. Fighting cocks, cocks fighting, and wagering on the fights have been popular obsessions with the Balinese generation. The tourist can worm his way into the sweating, jostling, noisy, gesticulating crowd of man and let us join them by standing around an open arena, watching the proceeding, might wonder if he has stepped into a different country.

BULL RACING AT WEST BALI

Jembrana in west Bali offers the very unique tourist attraction that can not be found in the other regencies throughout the island. Please take a chance in this period to escape to west Bali. The attraction is locally known as "Mekepung" and means, "to compete" in the traditional buffalo race which has its roots in agricultural tradition. In Mekepung or Buffalo race a jockey clad in traditional dress, stand in on a cart pulled by a couple of water Buffalos. Both jockey and Buffalos wear head dresses. The Buffalo race is staged after harvest time.

TENGANAN PANDANUS FIGHTER CEREMONY

Tenganan is occupied by Bali Aga people, the descendants of the original balinese who has stranged customs, festival, and practices. At the month - long Usaba Sambah Festival, which usually starts in June, men fight with stick wrapped in the thorny pandanus leaves attempt to draw blood. OGOH-OGOH PARADE

Balinese Caka New Year is a year of seasons, celebrated for every year according to the Balinese lunar month down to Hindus believes. On the eve of the Balinese Caka New Year, on every crossroads, house entrance smaller sacrificial offerings are put to pacify the demonic forces. While in the evening, everyone is outside making noise by sounding orchestra, cymbal and other noise-makers which then followed by processions of hundreds of torches and papier mache demons along the village. And tomorrow is a silence day, no one is allowed to leave the compound, one does not work and no light fire.

OMED-OMEDAN

Omed-Omedan or Tug of War Without a Rope is also known as "The Kissing Tradition". The ritulal commences by dividing the youths by gender into two opposing lines, where the boys eagerly wait on the northern, and the girls timidly line up in the southern, parts of the street. A referee will signal the start the game where each group gets close to pull each other, until the boys kiss the girls on the cheek. A Traditional orchestra will acompany the ritual to encourage the spirit of each of the participants. Other members of the crowd pour the water onto the "kisser to make the war" come alive.

BALI KITES FESTIVAL

A great sport of the Balinese is to fly huge kites, some 35 feet long with many figures of it, by hoisting the into the air from dryfield with many people on the balinese costume and accompanied by the gamelan. The participant are mostly from Bali, some other areas of Indonesia even from other countries and the tradition of festival of the kites is an annual fixture, this take place during on four days.

BALI ART FESTIVAL

This is especially evident during a visit to the island this month when thousands of artisans from every corner of Bali participate in the island's biggest art. The opening ceremony involves thousands of performers marching from Bali governor's office to the Art Center. This Bali's biggest art festival and certainly the biggest in Indonesia.
